31 Meditations in Seeking God's Righteousness

My siblings and I were taught to pray at an early age. Prayer came in many forms in our home. We prayed before meals, leaving for school, at school, church and at bedtime. I learned early on that prayer was simply a talk with God. This practice was not abandoned even when my lifestyle was less than pleasing to Him.

The following meditations were taken from various scriptures in the bible. In maturing spiritually, I have discovered the most effective way to pray is to pray the word of God. I begin with, Our Father:

1. Help me to seek You first every day and to always be thankful.

2. Give me wisdom to know when I am deceived and open my heart to all truth.

3. Create in me a clean heart and renew in me a right spirit

4. Don't let anyone lead me astray with empty philosophy and vain deceit.

5. Give me a spirit of humility.

6. Give me a strong desire for righteousness and holiness.

7. Soften my heart that I may have a teachable spirit.

8. By Your power help me to cast down all strongholds in my life.

9. Reveal the true condition of my heart and cultivate a right spirit within me.

10. Let my actions reflect Your values and not those of the world.

11. Place a burden of prayer and fasting in my heart and in my lifestyle.

12. Break me from the need to be in control that I may submit to my spiritual leaders.

13. Show me when I am rebellious and do things that are contrary to Your will.

14. May I always be reminded that I will reap what I sow.

15. Help me cultivate a desire in my heart to be obedient to Your Holy Word.

16. Help me forgive those who hurt me and to show mercy as You have shown mercy to me.

17. Fill my heart with peace, happiness, and joy and help me focus on heavenly things.

18. Fill me with Your goodness so that it becomes a natural way to treat others.

19. Give me strength to resist temptation and harmful habits that might control me.

20. Open my ears to Your voice as Your Spirit leads me.

21. Fill my heart with repentance for the things I have done that grieve You.

22. Please remove any bitterness in my heart that would cause me to harbor unforgiveness.

23. Let the words of my mouth and meditations of my heart be acceptable in Your sight.

24. Please remove the pride that keeps me from seeing myself as You see me.

25. Give me the desire to obey You and the power to please You.

26. Help me to bless You at all times and let Your praises continually be in my mouth.

27. Because there is power in words, help me to speak only good things.

28. Help me to never grieve Your Spirit.

29. Empower me with Your strength so that the enemy's tactics won't entice me.

30. Help me to always know and recognize truth.

31. Transform me into Your likeness.

These meditations assist in living righteously, holy and with humility. To live holy isn't heard very much from the pulpit these days. When we try, His grace is there when we fall short of the mark. By trying, I feel I am working to please Him. That alone is reward enough for me to try. What about you?

You are so right, Avis. "To live holy isn't heard very much from the pulpit these days."

Ken, thank you for reading this piece. I'm grateful you agree with me about holiness not being preached from the pulpit much nowadays. We hear so often, "I'm a Christian." Yet, are we living holy? Every person must answer for themselves.

You're very welcome, David. Thank you kindly for reading and leaving a comment. I agree with you. Using the meditations daily in our lives would indeed make each of us better off . .  . and the world would be a much better place to live.

I hope you're having a good weekend and settled after your nice vacation.

Hi Avis, Very good piece. Number 4 should be the tip of the day!

In this age of the internet and with lack of face-to-face communication, it is easy to understand how people that mainly fulfill their human interaction online, could be led astray by others that either are making up their "words of wisdom" as they go along, or those that outright deceive. Unfortunately, it even happens here on Searchwarp everyday.

As a God-loving person myself though, I have the most difficulty with number 16!

Have a beautiful day!

Hi Elizabeth, thank you for reading and sharing. I believe I agree with you about #4. I think on any given day we may struggle with one or more but we must not just try but do our best. God is gentle and very loving. We're blessed! Many blessings to you.

Have a beautiful day, too! Thank you! :)

Avis, you got it. Pray, Pray, Pray,......Pray. Unceasingly! It seems when I was a kid I could just run them off the tongue. Now that I am older, I wished they still rolled from my lips like a child. As a child they rolled so innocently. Now being older, it seems like a job. I guess that is why we have to come as little children. Thanks Avis, you brought me back to reality.

Doc, the devil messes with our mind to make us feel praying has to be something elaborate and oratorical. That way, we don't do it. And you're right, that's why He said to come as little children.

I giggled at myself just yesterday as I climbed out of bed from an afternoon nap. (I tend to stay awake all night.) As I was getting out of bed, I automatically said, "bless your name, Jesus." I'm not bragging, no. I am so thankful to Him, in addition, I am  believing Him for so much in my life as a kingdom citizen until I must pray without ceasing. I'm holding Him to his promises and you know what? He's holding me to his commands, too! He's expecting my obedience.

If we're busy praying, the devil has no point of entry (mind). I am so in love with Him after knowing He is my everything. I want to make up for the years I gave the devil and those I allowed him to steal. And besides, He is my true soul mate! :)

I get carried away in His presence. Thanks for indulging me. Blessings to you and yours!

I like the fact that you mention prayer is simply a talk with God. I think many people get hung up on how to pray, they don't get anything out of of reciting prayers they may have learned as children. If they just remember it's a 'talk with God', like talking to a friend, more people might get in the habit of praying. Very nicely done Avis.

Thank you, Brianna. I'm blessed to know you understand praying to Him is like talking to a friend. That's precisely what it is. He called us "friend" so that we can understand and talk to Him with ease. :)

Avis, brilliant. Thank you for sharing. And I agree, praying the Scriptures is the strongest and healthiest way to be sure we are praying according to His will. Thank your for the reminders! Blessings to you Sistah A!

Avis,

This admonition is so true and right. Thank you. It reminds of the words to a hymn by William Longstaff, Take Time to Be Holy:

Take time to be holy. The world rushes on; Spend much time in secret with Jesus alone.

By looking to Jesus, Like Him thou shall be; Thy friends in your conduct His likeness shall see.

Thanks again Avis

Edward,

You are welcome. Thank you for your comments and sweet memories. You brought back memories of a hymn I haven't heard since being a child. Along with Holy, Holy, Holy by Reginald Heber, we would sing that hymn during Sunday School.

Being the daughter of a pastor (now deceased) the memories are cherished. I will no doubt sing and hum Take Time to Be Holy throughout the day and beyond.

Blessings to you and yours. Enjoy a lovely day!

Good list for praying in meditation. Thanks. Prayer to the Lord, has significance in almost religion. However the rituals, languages and words used to address and postures and movements during prayers differ in different styles of human life

Base prayers are the same for everyone and should remain as all intend to reach and release to the very unity of God who takes care of all kinds of life in the universe. To me- True prayer is acceptance of its many sins and negative factors in its individual life and faith in the Lord and commitment to live henceforth in all situations with acceptance of karma and love given to God by serving others with humility.
