Michael Vick has reasons to celebrate today thanks to the National Football League. The NFL reinstated Vick in the NFL on a conditional basis. He must prove himself and stay out of trouble. Vick is a 29 year-old gifted athlete. He's also blessed. The league took into consideration they were dealing with a young man's life, albeit, one that he messed up. I believe in second chances, do you?
A statement said, "Vick "will be considered for full reinstatement and to play in
regular-season games by Week 6 based on the progress he makes in his
transition plan." He'll sit out until around October after the season begins but in the meantime, the conditional reinstatement allows him to participate in practices, workouts and meetings and may play
in his club's final two preseason games.
How does Vick feel about this reinstatement? "I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to Commissioner [Roger] Goodell for allowing me to be readmitted to the National Football League," Vick said in a statement. "I fully understand that playing football in the NFL is a privilege, not a right, and I am truly thankful for the opportunity I have been given."
To refresh your memory about why Vick was fired, please refer to this article. Atlanta Falcons' Quarterback Michael Vick Indicted in Dogfighting Case. Vick was freed from federal prison at Leavenworth, Kansas, on May 20 and returned to his home to serve the last two months of his 23-month sentence in home confinement.
It is reported that Tony Dungy will continue to work with Vick as adviser and mentor. Yes indeed, he's a blessed man. Let's hope he makes good on this opportunity and earn his way into the Hall of Fame in Canton, OH. What a comeback that would be!

Top-level comments on this article: (2 total)Hi Avis,Yes, I do believe in second chances. Vick messed up, so he ended up paying his debt to society. Those that would protest the man re-entering the NFL (PETA) and earning a living should take a step back. Let's see what Vick does with his life. I think he will be just fine.JDAvis, Judge, yes, let us just step back and let the man extend his being. Some do not know that sports are some individuals job. Although I am a Counselor (football player for Vick) It is our gifted bent. So happens, this is our livelihood. Let a man earn his keep as long as it is honorable. I go back to when I was a younger man, I was blessed as a young man by being blessed, however, I was still a young man. My prayers to that young man Vick. Very good article Avis and thanks Judge for your common sense thinking. For the healthy dog lovers, "take heed ye stand, lest ye fall." ...Smile...stop feeding the dog...Doc, many of us did things and just didn't get caught. Vick will be alright. He's paid a huge debt and gets to come back to the game. You are right about our livelihood. I look forward to seeing him doing what he love and is gifted at doing!
Thanks for the support and your comments, Doc. Take special care!
Blessings,
AvisHi JD,
