Known as the "Godfather of Gospel", pastor of Grace Tabernacle Christian Center Church of God in Christ, and Grammy nominated gospel singer and composer, The Rev. Timothy Wright has died. This information came from his music agent, Bill Bogle. Rev. Wright was 61.

Many of you may recall the tragic automobile accident taking place on July 4 that claimed the life of a man, a woman, a child and critically injuring another man. The man critically injured was Rev. Timothy Wright. The man killed was John Pick, the driver of the other vehicle who was traveling the wrong way on an Interstate, crashing head-on with the passengers in The Wright's vehicle. The woman killed was Rev. Wright's wife, Betty and the boy was their 14 year old grandson, D.J. If I recall correctly, she was killed instantly and their grandson later died at the hospital.

Rev. Wright's latest album, "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus," came out in 2007. He received Grammy nominations and made Billboard Top 20 charts for gospel albums with his recordings, "Come Thou Almighty King" and "Been There Done That."

Wright was born in Brooklyn and began playing piano for his local church at the age of 12 and "also composing at a young age." It is reported he was music director at Brooklyn's Washington Temple Church of God in Christ and began writing songs for fellow musicians like Mattie Moss Clark and the Rev. Isaac Douglas by his early 20s.

There are children, grandchildren and other survivors, including a church family, in need of prayer as they grieve the passing of and honor a man of great distinction, one of God's willing servants. The couple was returning from a church conference in Detroit when the fatal accident occurred.
