The Night Watchman

Into the night, the sound of darkness was deafening.
The pain of missing him was almost unbearable.
Reaching out for something to hold onto if nothing but hope,
Finding one shred of hope would surely help her to cope.

Deeper into an abyss her feelings of terror plunged.
Descending faster, wantonly, never breaking speed,
Emotions moving faster than her body could reasonably take,
No longer able to hold on, she wondered what would be her fate.

The voice she heard crying out could not be her own,
The whimpers for help she thought, were they coming from me?
She prayed silently, fervently to the Father, Who art above,
Let this be a dream, please awaken me and show me your love.

It was then she was touched softly, given a gentle shake.
Still incoherent, she began to move, slowly coming awake.
Clinging to him tightly, she was gently rocked in his arms.
She knew even in our slumber, our Father protects us from harm.

Ahhh Judi, thank you bunches! I'm happy you read this and found it "beautiful." God is full of surprises. When I try to do things myself, they are a chore. Thanks for stopping by, Chaz Girl!

Wow, this is great! Didn't I hear you once say that you didn't write poetry? That's what I thought you said, but you were WRONG! This is wonderful. Please write more.

David, I am stunned and pleased by your reaction/comments. Thank you from my heart. This one came over a few days. The first verse was easy but I did not know where it was going. I put it aside, came back to it and it unfolded. I wrote poetry many, many years ago but dismissed the idea of having any special talent. Your encouragement and that of the others has been a tremendous blessing to me. Confidence is building. Certain passions I tend to shield. (Hope you can understand that.)

It's interesting how you say that the first verse came and then you didn't know where it was going. I think that must be a common thing with poets. Many times I have written a couple lines, then had to leave it for several days because I didn't know what to do with it. Other times I would write a whole poem and didn't know where it was going or how it would end until it was almost finished. I think that's what makes writing poetry exciting.

"I think that must be a common thing with poets." That's it. It's official! I AM a poet! That statement put me over the top! *giggling*

And I get it. The title popped in my head as I typed the word "harm." - including the period. I have this one on my avisward site with an image of the statue of Christ in Rio taken over the city at night. It's an amazing image!

I find writing poetry to be exciting, too. I look to the future and improving.
