Prologue:
They are now lovers and celebrating another year of marriage. The two of them are reminiscing about how it all started. She's sharing with him, the memories in her heart about how they met.
I glanced at you from across the room.
Your face showed the intensity of your conversation.
No, you looked relaxed but anyone could tell you were
serious about what you spoke.
I took another look at you knowing what you were saying was no joke.
The only reason I was there was to network for The Home.
It's amazing the things we do because of what we believe.
We do them even if it's something we said we would never
do.
So, "never say never" I guess is profoundly true.
I noticed how the muscles in your face had relaxed and
wondered why.
Not so much why but what could now be the topic of discussion
that warmed you so.
I had to get to you somehow because you were on my "To Do"
list for the night.
Putting it that way is an eyebrow raiser but I wouldn't
let you out of sight.
Hearing about your philanthropic exploits had somehow
become unimportant.
I had secretly watched as you engaged others with words
that set emotions ablaze.
Yes, I still wanted a sizable contribution for my kids and The
Home.
But I had come to realize I wanted time well-spent with
you and for that we must be alone.
Out of nowhere my resolve became unshakable.
You were getting another glass of Pellegrino and a twist of lime.
As I made my way to you from across the room with a slow steady
gait.
With hand extended I said to you, "Hello, you're Julian Hamilton
and I'm Fate."
I almost lost it when you wittily responded,
"Well, we shouldn't make Fate wait any longer, should we?"
Your hearty outburst of laughter enveloped mine and infused
me with joy.
You then told me who I really was and revealed yet another
surprise.
You said the pleasure of finally meeting me was difficult
to disguise.
Epilogue:
Funny how life is when we don't look for what we think is
missing.
I've learned we tend to be blindsided by what is before
our eyes.
Besides, isn't it rather silly to look for something that
isn't really lost?
It can take weeks, months, or even years to count up the actual
cost.
