Why is Love Conditional?

You don't have a clue what unconditional love is.

Always asking me, "Why?"

Why must I give reasons?

Why can't people accept what I say is simply how I feel.

Loving me how I need to be loved is what's best for me.

Loving me the way you want to love me does not love me at all.

If you listened to my words, you would know my thoughts.

Serve love to me the way I need it not the way you want.

You should never guess what I need or want.

We are mature enough to ask of each other what we need to know.

You cannot trust feelings because they do not always show.

So, ask and you shall receive the answers that will help us grow.

Even in my silence, I need you to get close to me.

Close enough to hear words that are not spoken.

So close that distance between us creates an echo of my pain.

You feel it and nurture me to keep me from going insane.

Love me unconditionally. Love me when you think I'm undeserving.

Love me because you see His image in me when you can't see what you want.

Love me with the knowledge of who I am because of I Am.

I know loving unconditionally can be frustrating and unnerving.

But if you love me this way, in love we will always stay.

I love you unconditionally, never looking at your faults.

I love you because of Who I see inside of you not who is in front of me.

Loving this way is the way it was meant to be.

Wow, another writer breaking out with poetry! I love it! And what a great message. I hope you'll write more poetry, Avis. I find it is such a great way to present a message, and with only a few well-chosen words.

Brianna, thank you! I appreciate the comment and compliment so very much. We desire to reach out and perhaps speak for others but may not hit the mark. So, your words mean a lot to me.

Hello, Avis. Haven't talked with you for awhile. It is great to hear from you again and this was beautiful. You are a great talent--and I think you have been hiding this from us. I don't remember reading much poetry from you.

Great job.

Best always and God Bless you on this Easter Holiday.

Sandra,

Happy Good Friday and Resurrection Weekend!

Thank you very much for your encouragement to write more poetry. Also for recognizing my absence. I could be here all the time but getting here to write has been a challenge. I have to make it a priority when I begin to miss being here, too much.

Blessings to you, Sandra. I celebrate the holiday with you each day!

Well done my compatriot! Yes, unconditional love. Most seek it, desire it, yet few get it or know how to give it. I'm still learning. To give it you certainly need patience and a compassionate, forgiving heart. Just one damn big heart in general, I guess ;=)

Yet, I've also heard that even the Lord's love is conditional, or the blessings given. It is conditional on how we act. To cite: "You must forgive not 7 times but 7 times 70." "Judge not lest ye be judged." "Let him who has not sinned cast the first stone."

The Lord certainly loves us all but more so those he calls friends, disciples even those who do His bidding.

Thanks for the great poem and all you've done for me in getting my launch off the ground. You are a big-hearted person doing great biddings of the Master. Peace!

Jeff, thanks comrade! I appreciate the review and input. I agree His blessings and promises are conditional but His love is not. Actually, I believe He's probably the only One who ever passes that test 100% of the time. I think it's good that we always try even if we do not always get 100%.

You've given me too much credit, I feel, Jeff. I confess, the heart's big but you're launching yourself! If I'm able to help in someway, I am always willing. I'm blessed so I must be a blessing. I can't reach for your hand with a closed fist. You can grab my wrist but the grip may not be as secure.

Thanks for giving back and helping with GeoVi's Home.

Great article. I have to work daily to love unconditionally, however with age I find it comes easier.
Thank you,

Thanks for reading and commenting! Linda, I have found loving unconditionally comes easier with age, too. I know 1 Peter 5:7, intimately. I cast all my cares. That works better than Zoloft or anything else. I know from experience. In casting my cares, I allow people to be who they are and don't be a bother. In turn, I don't want to be 'bothered' either.

Happy Easter weekend to you and may God bless you real good!
