Election Day Countdown for Christians

An historical event in America will soon take place when its registered citizens will elect the next President of the United States. What makes this event historical is of course, the Democratic nominee, Barack Obama. The Illinois Senator is the first man of color to receive the nomination for President of the United States of a major political party. This is cause for celebration for everyone regardless of their race. It is the content of our character and not the color of our skin that makes us honorable.

I will be happy when Election Day comes and goes. At the risk of sounding 'Holier than thou,' I am saddened, jealous, envious, grieved and disappointed for God, the Father and Jesus Christ by the attention this historic event has received. I receive a barrage of emails daily from both sides; those desiring the Obama/Biden ticket to win and those desiring McCain/Palin ticket to receive the victory. It seems 'we the people' are looking to mere men (and a woman) to rescue us from the wages of sin. I would love to see a mass movement for lost souls, witnessing to the lost and expanding the citizens of the Kingdom of God of the same or greater magnitude. If we campaigned for Jesus as we have campaigned for our candidate of choice, there would not be as many people bound for hell, suffering and living for Satan. I question our focus.

The Bible tells us in II Chronicles 7:14, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." This is our prayer. Jesus is our answer. He is the answer for the world! If you do not know Him, you are invited to come to know Him and accept Him as your Savior. You have received a personal invitation from Him. Please RSVP before it is too late.

Yes, we must be aware, informed, involved, astute, and wise about the ways of the world; but as Christians, we must remember we are in the world but not of the world. We have a Covenant relationship with God and a system unique to the world's system. We are joint heirs with Christ. We're different. Get over the Presidency of the United States and get on with evangelizing.

This is how I feel.

Judi, thank you sincerely for your acceptance of the message I felt burdened to write. I have been troubled in my spirit about it for some time now and feel it was from God. I give Him praise and Glory. I've missed my fellow Warpies. Thank you, darling for missing me. Blessing to you always, my friend.

Avis,

We should all rejoice in the fact that the first Black man received the nomination for the President of the United States. We should also remember what Martin Luther King said about "judging people by the content of their character and not the color of their skin." God Bless.

Avis, welcome back and with an explosion. I echo all that is said and yet I wonder if those expressing it understand it fully? Why, well let me offer this for consideration. Through the years I have been writing I have written as best I could with the knowledge provided to facts. Using Gods Word and direction I ignore all but is fact. However, the very same who write to you and espouse God many times do not in my opinion address sin and wrong in the manner we all should be. What is that  a person may ask? Well,a s example where is their outrage over usury and those who condone it and accept it and ignore it? Is not the Word specific to it? So how can we support someone, anyone and they all wear the same shoe, who condones it, allows it, provides the laws that make it legal. How? Well the lessor of two evils. No, no evil is acceptable. If we see it as such how do we condone it, allow it? If so then we need change. Yes MLK - character, what he was directly speaking to was not racce or religion but, what they have done or failed to do, the fruit of their labor, that is the esscence of a person. Best wishes dear lady  and I hope all is well. Robert.

Robert, thank you as always for your insightful wisdom and generous support of my views. I do not seek agreement but it's nice to have others understand even if they disagree. Some people I have learned as just disagreeable and that's the lot I wish to avoid. Our Father has been and continues to be very good to us in spite of ourselves. All is well and I wish they are with you as well, my dear friend. Thank you again!

In quoting Dr. King that "we should judge a man by the content of his character and not by the color of his skin" is a wonderful sentiment. As it is advice that we should strongly follow.

As Christians, followers of Christ, we should seek the advancement of the Kingdom of the Father before the advancement of ANY race.

The fact that our country can finally nominate a black man for the office of President of the United States of America is something that does cause my soul to rejoice... just not this black man.

To Anonymous above, I edited your comments since I did not want to remove them altogether. I appreciate that you took time to read and comment. The article is  about Jesus Christ and not opinions on a candidate's voting record or how he or she compares with Christian living. I do not wish to offend you by editing what I did and if you'd rather have the comment removed altogether, I will do so.

It matters not if someone likes a candidate or not for whatever reason they can prove or justify. I do not want pros and cons in the comments about a particular candidate. The one this article promotes is Jesus Christ and as the author, I prefer to keep the comments centered around Him.

Thank you for understanding.

If the content of our character is so important to you (and I agree it is), why is the color of Barack's skin a cause for celebration? I'll tell you why, because the color of Barack's skin is VERY important to you.

You gave away your own racism when you quoted MLK and announced how important it is that our next president could be black, all in the same paragraph.

If you were not racist at all, the color of Barack's skin would not be important to you at all.

Please do not make the conventional assumptions that cowards tend to make, "Anonymous." Although anonymous, I recognize something in your eyes that is very familiar. Therefore,  I  apologize to you because  I do not feel I owe you an explanation,  agreement, disagreement or any more of my time. I appreciate you for using yours in reading and even commenting on this article. Thank you. If you ever need my help, perhaps I can coach you along some guidelines that work well for you and keep you focused. Be well and God bless!

The reason that the color of Barack Obama's skin is important is because there has been many, many dark years in American history when this would have been completely impossible, no matter how noble the character of the Presidential candidate.

Even as a white American male I am elated that so many Americans have advanced to the point of recognizing this.  Obviously there is a way to go, as you have proven.

The premise of this article was about how God's grace is above the political fray.  In other words, God is bigger than any one candidate and we should respect one another regardless of our politcal orientation.  By your comments, you have shown how racism is unfortunately still alive in this country.  I am proud of the diversity of this nation and applaud Avis for writing an article that gave the honor to God, not man. It is not God's will that any one candidate should win and Avis did not imply that!

I suppose, at this moment, I am reacting in the spirit of what I had penned in my latest article, "The Good Fight." This article is an absolutely beautiful, pure article. In reading Avis' work, I clearly felt the Holy Spirit working through her to reach ALL RACES; all children of the King. For all the "anons" who hatefully leave comments, I challenge you to remove your cowardly hat and state who you and allow yourselves to be challenged as an adult and not a coward. I, too, have been a victim of being called a "racist" and am appalled and disgusted. As a "white" woman I stand beside my "black" girlfriend Avis and demand that this nonsense stops! Avis, you are a beautiful person and I am sorry you were visited by such ugliness!

Judi, you are a very good friend and if I'm to be in the same boat with anyone, I'm happy it's you. I know who you are and you know who I am. Above that, even Laura said it best when she said, "God knows the heart." I am humbled by the support. Thank you, my white, New Yorker (birth), Catholic girlfriend. Wow, I'm black, Pentecostal and a native Floridian. How can we call each other girlfriends?!?!?! Will wonders ever cease?

Oh my goodness! White men can't jump and you (white woman) can't swim?!? I'd roll on the floor if it were not crowded with boxes. (I'm moving on up. Although I'm already on the Eastside!) Geez, I'm crackin' myself up! I'll take that hug, thank you very much. Hugging you back.

Avis, such a wonderful person who most likely has experienced this in her life all to well. Yes and another good friend has as well recently and at the hands of those who deem themselves good and of course right. How sad we as humans must face the reality of life that hatred comes wrapped in. It comes to us in many forms. Yet we know such as believers exists because this world is for those who are in it and those who follow and do the teachings of Christ are not. Yes and they do not even recognize the error of their ways. How very sad. They can come professing light and right yet they are as dark as the deepest hole, where no light ever shines or omits. They can come as lambs and yet are wolves. You my friend spoke as a woman of great character, love and intelligence that I and many of us who read your works know you to be and are. I need not add anything else for you answered it well.  I know you will not allow this "cowardly person of evident low esteem to drag you down to their level.  They evidently have very deep problems and need Gods help. We should all as Christians say, father forgive this person and help him or her with her problems, for they are very deep and hurtful to not only them but those around them and those like you they reach out to touch painfully. To my dear friend, I am hurt as well by yours. be well, take care and the deepest of well wishes. Robert.

Robert, your first sentence spoke volumes! I integrated the elementary school in my hometown before desegregation. My white Algebra teacher called me a mulatto because of the color of my skin. I was crowned the first black homecoming queen to a crowd that walked out saying, "Now we have a (N-word) for a queen." To be called a racist is mild, to put it mildly. You are a dear friend. I cherish that more than you know. Thank you for your kind words of support and answer. I have prayed for this person. If he or she wanted to 'get my goat' they should have spoken against Christ, not me. *warm smile* I'm so not worthy of the effort save for His Grace.
