His name is George W. Ward, Jr. He was named after our dad. He assured our parents there would be no George III and there wasn't as he and his wife have a daughter!
George and I just ended a telephone chat. He lives in Ormond Beach, Florida which is just north of Daytona Beach. After earning his Bachelor's degree, he went away to earn his MBA and came back to Florida to make that area home.
I love listening and talking to George. He is a gentleman and Bible scholar! He has an anointing on his life to read, comprehend and teach the Word of God. I also love to hear him pray. He simply prays the Word of God, the Holy Scriptures. He blesses me each time we talk.
When I am having difficulty from a scripture reference and need explanation, he is who I call. His knowledge of the Bible combined with his witty personality gives George a most outrageous sense of humor! When talking with him, he will have you giving praise to God and laughing hysterically! I live in South Carolina and we had spoken just yesterday but it's always a pleasure talking to him.
He and his wife, Delores are Pastors but he has the title of Head Deacon. He has no desire to be a Pastor but does everything a Pastor does without the title. I don't think he preaches nor would consider himself a preacher. He is an excellent expositor and teacher. Actually, he teaches at the Bible Institute of Ormond Beach and is Dean of the School. He's quite gifted, my sweetheart of a brother. We always thought he was mother's favorite child but that was not necessarily true. She, like all attentive moms, are unlicensed Psychologist and mothered each child suited for their personality-type. That requires divine intervention, I feel. I have no biological children but a bit of wisdom on the subject.
George and Delores have two beautiful granddaughters who are five years apart. The youngest is only six months old. They went to Atlanta for Jadyn, the five year old, to visit with them a few weeks this summer but she refused to leave her baby, Kailyn. George was crushed. Her father was able to get her to believe Kailyn would be fine without her around and she relented.
Our deceased parents would be so proud to see how much he loves those girls! Much like our dad, he will not hide his emotions when it comes to his family, whether the emotions are of happiness, sadness or anger.
I pray you are blessed to have family members who help you along in your Christian walk. If they are not biological, a church family is waiting to welcome you to the family of Christ. None of us are alone, never. You can always experience a sister's love or that of a brother, in Christ. We're waiting for you with open arms. Come to Jesus and watch your family grow!

Top-level comments on this article: (5 total)Very enjoyable read Avis, I have five brothers and two sisters. We are all very close. Me, being the one next to the baby my siblings were all older than me and my younger brother. I use to confide in them a lot. Thanks for sharingDavid, thank you for your kind comments. You and I are the same rank in our families. I am also next to the baby. I am referred to as the knee-baby. I'm not sure if this is a cultural or southern term. I'm extremely happy you found this article to be a "very enjoyable read," David. Thank you very much!
Avis, a brother or sister is a most precious gift. I have 3 sisters and 2 brothers. I am next to the oldest. The love you have for your brother is so evident in your writing. I would be honored to meet both of you if ever there was an opportunity. Thank you for sharing him with us.You gave me the warm fuzzies, Ms. Shubert. What lovely comments. If the opportunity ever presented itself, I can speak for him, we would be delighted to meet you. My family breakdown is identical to yours, four girls and two boys. I wrote about my eldest sibling, a brother, sometime ago. Your comments here and there (cheesecake) have touched me deeply. Thank you. It's a pleasure to meet you on SearchWarp!
A beautiful article and tribute to a brother, Avis---your love certainly shines thru. You are lucky to have such a wonderful brother and he is lucky to have a sister that sees him in that light. I have four brothers and two (living) sisters that I love deeply and you have made me feel regret that I have not let them know, lately, just how much I do care for them----I am going to email or call each one before I go to bed tonight. Also, I too have (actually three) church families; as I attend my own church and visit often the churches of my daughter and my brother. Thanks again for opening my eyes before it's too late. SandraSandra, I'm a warm ball of fuzz this evening! I'm thankful this article stirred within you the longing to let your siblings know how deeply you care for them. We don't ever want to take them for granted but it seems to happen most with those who are closest to you, doesn't it? Thank you for your enjoyment in reading this article. It warmed me just as much to know about your church families! How blessed we are!
WOW! WOW! WOW! What can I say - how touching, inspiring, encouraging, terrific and prolific a tribute to a brother. You're so thoughtful, loving, encouraging and sensitive to God's timing. I was experiencing a little down time and God always has a unique way of speaking to our hearts at and during a time of need. Thank you so much. I Love you and pray that God will prosper your way today.
Hi Avis, I am left feeling like I am missing out...I want to know George :-) You are blessed and I love how you included an invitation to become a part of the family of God. I am grateful to the Lord for bringing us together. Pehaps we will meet face to face before we meet in the sky. Great tribute! Love, TeresaAhhh Teresa, what very nice things to say. :-) Thank you! You'd get a kick out of him. We talked this morning. I pray we meet before that time in the sky, too. About the invitation, I want to do it with each article, as I'm sure you do, too. When you try to live right, you also know one must be in order. I can assure you, however, not many slip past it when I'm out and about. A smile will attract people to you and...watch out! *laughing* Some have regretted stopping for me, I'm sure!
