Close Encounter of the God Kind

There are times in our lives when we read something, hear something or discover something through sight and sound that pleasantly overwhelms us. It leaves us in awe! Throughout the course of my adult life, I have enjoyed many such experiences long before standing at Niagara Falls or peering into the Grand Canyon.

Watching hummingbirds dance around red salvia, tasting from its sweet nectar reservoirs offers ‘awe’ inspiring moments for me. Thinking how God made provisions for all of His creatures gives blessed assurance of His Love for us, who were made in His image.

I’m not a Theologian. I took the required Religion and Philosophy courses to graduate from university. But prior to that, I had been a regular in attendance at Sunday school for as long as I can remember. Weekly attendance at Bible Study, as long as you were under our parents’ roof, was a requirement also.

I was indoctrinated with strict teachings and felt brain-washed by what I was taught at church and what I learned in the classroom. Becoming an adult was complicated enough compounded with having to make decisions about what God meant to me. I began my journey. I rebelled against all I was taught. There was no decision to make, afterall. I came into the knowledge of what God meant to me.

Feeling like Saul on the road to Damascus, I had my encounter and have had a personal relationship with God, the Father and His son, Jesus Christ, ever since. These lyrics proclaim the knowledge of who He is [has become] in my life.

Avis it is amazing that I was drawn to you this evening. Today, I was 'mentally fried' and could not concentrate on work; (sorta like 'brain dead / inspiration won't come...') Since we have chickens, I played 'hookey' and checked on them. One of our chickens has been sitting on her eggs for over 2 weeks now and I was in awe, as you described regarding the Hummingbird, how God provides for all. (I do think this chicken is a bit neurotic though but that's another story...) Then I continued 'my hookey day' and watched the movie, "Pope John Paul II" and was so inspired by that man's faith. Then I read your article and was inspired with your beautiful, powerful words. There you have it, Ms. Ward, your words inspire others and YOU ARE GIFTED AS A WRITER. Thank you for sharing this!

Judi, you gave me a "pick-me-upper" with your raving review. I am ever humbled and grateful. Seems like we were on the same or similiar path today, well yesterday. I've turned into a newborn, it seems. I prefer to stay awake all night and sleep most of the day. It shouldn't happen that way for me so I'm loopy. Laura is so blessed to have chickens about. Ooo Judi that's good living, girl. My dad stopped farming for his livelyhood when I was three but once a farmer, always. We had animals and all sorts of fun things to do by being reared in the country. I think God loves to visit country folk too! *laughing* He's been visiting me and I was inspired to write this article. I'm happy it blessed you. I have yet to see the film you spoke of so I'll put it in my queue. The lyrics to that song would be an excellent exercise for someone to learn the scriptures in the Bible, if so inspired. I think it has helped many! I appreciate you and your kindness, Judi. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
