le.cc/mark/8-34.htm" target=_top>34 And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. 35 “For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. 36 “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? 37 “For what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 38 “For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels." — Mark 8:34-38
Not only do all people end in death, but everything that comes from Adam ends in death. The wisdom of this world, the inventions of this world, the desires of this world, the pride of this world and anything you can name that comes from Adam must find its end in death. This is final, this is the end. Natural religion cannot help it one bit. There is no philosophy that can get around it. And man's natural condition is such that there is no argument whatsoever in its favor. In the flesh dwells no good thing. The best righteousness that man can produce is filthy rags in the sight of God. And no man who knows God will for a moment try to reason otherwise. He knows himself.
Only those in Christ, the incarnate Word of God, can have resurrection and length of days. And how do they get into Christ? By believing the record concerning Him, this is the Word of God, every word which proceedeth out of the mouth of God. There is life in no other person or thing.
From the beginning of the Bible to the end we find these things emphasized. The whole plan of redemption set forth, and the way of life plainly stated. But there are many who try to find another way, who believes that man does not really die, that he is like God and has life in himself.
John 3:36. He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life. No resurrection.
Life is not about you but what’s in you. If you are in Christ . . . and Christ is in you, you are a new creature. Old things have passed away and all things have become new.
New friends, new songs in your heart, new motivations, new habits, new environment and a new way of life are all yours. What used to work, doesn’t work anymore. What used to be okay is no longer okay. What you used to do, you just can’t do anymore. The places where you used to go, you have no desire to go anymore. Your life is filled with a sense of purpose. You are compelled to follow the path to your destiny. You walk by faith not by sight. You believe!
One is no longer self-centered and thinking “it’s all about me" but it’s about expanding God’s Kingdom by reaching out to others. God has given us much instruction on what He requires from us and He does this not for His sake, but for our sake. He says that it is for our good and not for His, as He is already inherently good. —Matthew 19:17
The Meaning of Life is expressed in all of the scriptures previously used and explained by Christ in the following scriptures:
37 And He said to him, “You shall Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and foremost commandment. 39 “The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 “On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets." —Matthew 22:37-40
When we live for Christ and love each other, we can laugh at our adversaries. We harbor no ill-will, hatred, evil thoughts or desires for them. We love and pray for them. We continue to give meaning to our lives and each life our life touches.

Very well said Avis, I believe serving our fellow man (human beings) is true freedom. For if we live for only ourselves we become prisoners confined to ourselves. To serve requires love only with love do we find freedom

David, thank you kindly, Sir for your favorable comments. I agree with you wholeheartedly, "For if we live for only ourselves we become prisoners confined to ourselves." A profound statement! Be well.
Avis, beautifully said and your article was truly what it is all about. Of the 12 Apostles, I probably relate most with Peter, yet I hope and pray that I would always have the courage to say 'Yes, I am a Follower of The Lord, Jesus Christ'. May your article touch many hearts.

Judi, I so appreciate your wonderful comments of support and shared-belief. You made me smile when you said you related most to Peter. Peter's denial of Christ on three occasions merely revealed his human flaw. Knowing he would do this did not eliminate his chances of becoming a follower of Christ. He was still chosen. We continue to make mistakes but like you, I pray to always have the courage to say what you have said, Judi. Thank you for the encouragement.

Dear Anon,
You are very welcome. I also, thank you. Your comment filled me with joy and humility. Be blessed. —Avis
Hi Avis, I just read your article, I love it. I read articles with out the mentioning of God and it makes me sad. Your article as well as others makes me so happy when they include God in their Meanings of Life....Great and very blessed article

Hiya Kathy and thank you for reading my article. I am so in agreement with you again. I may come across as a lunatic, a Jesus freak, fanatic, or just plain nuts but I don't mind if it's because of Christ. I am a sinner saved by Grace. I mess up, do wrong but for the Grace of God, I'm forgiven when I repent. Like you, it's difficult to imagine not including Him in everything I do, say or write. If I never uttered His name or wrote it, He is so awesome that His light shines within us and cannot be hidden.
You wrote a beautiful article. The comments you received were due you. I will read all of them before month's end. I'm excited about having that to look forward to. :) I'm having a great day, thank you. You too, Kathy!

A bold but important article. It seems today that all Christians must hide their faith and that all the New Age and power within nonsense has pushed forward. The world doesn't even know how to refer to God anymore except maybe you Higher Power or however you perceive your Higher Power to be. It is through Christ that we have power and it is through Him that all things are possible but I guess the world would rather search for the truth then find the Truth. Keep spreading the word.

Anonymous, thank you for replying and the encouraging words. A couple of the commentators have stated this article is "bold" and it blesses me each time I read it. I think how bold "the world" is (Rosie O'Donnell comes to mind) in stating their convictions, beliefs and truth as they see it. I'm competitive against the world in that sense, otherwise, I only compete against myself by trying to improve. I make no comparisons to others (the world) except when it comes to serving the Lord. It requires Holy boldness in times like these. I didn't think of this article being bold, thus, not thinking I was being bold. I have such a passion for souls and Christ being glorified. I'm not an introvert by any means but actually, I am rather shy. This is why each comment blesses me. I not only love, but adore people and have an innateness about me that reaches out, even in my shyness. I am thankful you are not deceived by the wiles of this world. There are no scales on your eyes and you have found the Truth. Be blessed and to you, I say, keep spreading the Word, too. :)
